Alan has been giving his time, talent, and support to Whitman-Walker for nearly 20 years. Alan’s service began with HIV discrimination
cases on behalf of folks either fired or refused medical service due to their HIV status. One of his clients was so grateful that
he left his only possession, his car, to Alan when he passed from AIDS. Since then, Alan’s pro bono commitment has included successful
representation of multiple asylum seekers, including a young gay man who fled Honduras after his best friend was murdered by gang
members. His commitment to social justice is a steady force always encouraging new attorneys to embrace pro bono service.
Karl A. Racine, Attorney General of the District of Columbia
Attorney General Racine’s impressive professional path began with the DC Public Defender’s office, included service as associate White House counsel in President Bill Clinton’s administration, led to the role of managing partner, pro bono champion, and avid Whitman-Walker supporter at Venable LLP, and most recently, landed him in the role of the first independent Attorney General for the District.
