Beware of MyChart Phishing Emails

Patients have reported receiving fraudulent “Your MyChart Medicare Kit Awaits!” emails. These emails ARE NOT from Whitman-Walker Health or Unity and are part of a phishing scam.

The message may look like the example below:

A MyChart Medicare Kit shipping notification shows missing address details, free shipping, and prompts to verify the address to claim the kit for the 2026 benefit cycle.

If you receive this, or a similar email:

  • Do not click on any links, including the “unsubscribe” link
  • Do not provide any personal or financial information
  • Do not reply to the email
  • Delete the email immediately

How to recognize the scam:

  • Look for misspellings.
  • Verify the sender’s email address: An email from Whitman-Walker Health’s MyChart would come from the sender “Your Whitman-Walker Health Team.” The email address will be:  YourCareTeam@UnityHealthcare.org. Unity is WWH’s Epic partner.
  • If you have questions or concerns, please call 202.207.2500.

How to Stay Safe from MyChart Scams and Fraud

A good rule of thumb to detect phishing scams is: If a message tries to make you act quickly, reveal information, or click something unexpected, treat it as suspicious until verified.

Other common signs of phishing scams include:

  1. Urgent of threatening language
  2. Suspicious Sender Address
  3. Unexpected Links in the email
  4. Requests for passwords or sensitive data
  5. Unexpected attachments
