Senior Director of Behavioral Health
Randy Pumphrey is the Senior Director of Behavior Health at Whitman Walker Health. Prior to this he served for 7 years as the Behavioral Health Manager of Mental Health Services at Whitman-Walker and for 9 years as the Clinical Director of the Lambda Center, a program that provided specialized care to clients who identified as LGBTQ and a joint partnership between Whitman Walker Clinic and The Psychiatric Institute of Washington. Pumphrey is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia and a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. He specializes in co-occurring conditions, mood disorders, grief and loss, living with HIV, LGBTQ issues, trauma, couples therapy, addictive and compulsive processes particularly focusing on substance dependence, sexual compulsion and the process of love addiction and love avoidance. He has spoken extensively on a broad array of mental health and addiction treatment issues impacting the LGBTQ community.
Pumphrey received both his master of divinity in 1985 and doctorate of ministry in 1997 at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC. He received his bachelor’s in American studies at Towson State University in 1981 with a focus on American literature
