Volunteer with WWH
Whitman-Walker Health is dedicated to a mission that serves the Washington area’s diverse urban community. Are you looking for an opportunity to support and further that mission?
Our volunteers seek to make deep and meaningful connections with the people we serve. Due to the nature of our work, we rely on volunteers who, like us, desire to make long-term, trusting and stable connections with the community. Volunteers also show an on-going commitment to our programming and administrative support functions.
Most positions are located at WWH’s Downtown Campus (NW), though some opportunities exist at our Max Robinson Center located in Anacostia (SE).
All positions are opened to a wide range of individuals and volunteer opportunities can be found within the many various departments. Please keep in mind that most positions require specialized training and/or professional licensure and certification. To be placed into any volunteer opportunity, individuals must have completed all necessary background work and provide WWH with appropriate documentation at the time of application. In addition, volunteers will be held to all compliance standards within the health center to include but not limited to HIPAA privacy regulations.
All internal program-specific training is free to all approved volunteers. External specialized training or professional certifications are at the volunteers’ own time and expense. At the request of the volunteer, WWH may be able to provide a written summary detailing the tasks completed to support educational or professional development.
Large Groups/One-Time Volunteers
We encourage any large group (company, non-profit, service organization, university group, etc.) who wishes to devote volunteer time to WWH to do so at Walk to End HIV, a 5k Run/Walk event held typically in the month of October annually. The Walk is successful because it relies on large volunteer groups for a range of tasks that may be administrative, outreach or day-of-event. You can register your group for this great opportunity on the Walk website, by contacting us at 202.332.WALK or by e-mail.
Volunteering at WWH can take place within a variety of departments. Below is a list of departments and volunteer needs. Please download our Volunteer Application form (linked below) and e-mail it to the department or volunteer need you are interested in. You may include a cover letter and resume’, but they are not required. Click on each department’s name to e-mail directly to that department.
You must submit the Volunteer Application form to be considered for a volunteer position at Whitman-Walker.
We will keep your application on file for six months. If you have not heard back from us within six months, please send your application again.
