Dwayne Lawson-Brown has managed the RealTalkDC social marketing campaign since its 2008 inception. With Metro TeenAIDS’ transition into the Whitman-Walker family, Lawson-Brown has taken greater responsibility in planning and implementing HIV testing events throughout the D.C. area. Simultaneously, Lawson-Brown oversees a myriad of programs in RealTalkDC’s Freestyle Peer Educator Center. Lawson-Brown has been recognized for his work through awards and press coverage including the D.C. Department of Health’s Outstanding Peer Educator Award, WETA’s Hometown Hero Award, the Mayor’s Community Service Award, a feature segment on BBC America’s World News, a profile by Washington Post Columnist John Kelly, and the Emerging Leader Award from The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Lawson-Brown has served as a spokesperson and model for youth who aspire to transform their communities through service and creativity. He has spoken at multiple conferences including the Ryan White National Youth Conference, Advocates for Youth’s Urban Retreat Conference, The National Youth-At-Risk Conference, and the International AIDS Conference.
