Peer Support Program Coordinator
I’m Michael Mitchell, CPCC, the peer support coordinator here at Whitman-Walker. I love how peer-to-peer support has been a part of the organization since our early days, especially when our buddy program for people with HIV/AIDS was in full swing. To me, peer support is not only about offering no-cost mental health care to individuals and groups, but also about building community. I started my career doing HIV/AIDS education and prevention in the early 90s, then created and ran several LGBTQ-focused organizations on local, state, and national levels. I transitioned into being a nonprofit consultant and certified life coach before joining Whitman-Walker in 2017.
