Heather Alt is the Deputy Director of Nursing at Whitman-Walker Health. Formerly, the Senior Manager of Nursing Adherence, Heather leads a team of registered nurses who help patients understand their chronic medical conditions and provide tools to stay actively engaged in their health care. With the 2017 implementation of the MyHealthGPS program, Heather oversees all nursing care management related activities, triage nursing and hospitalization tracking programs. Alt originally joined Whitman-Walker in 2008 as the Bridge Back Staff Nurse. Prior to joining Whitman-Walker, she worked for the Pennsylvania State University sociology department training students in facilitating group discussions and was later a psychiatric nurse in an addictions setting.

Alt received her bachelor’s degree in nursing with a minor in sociology from The Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University. She is board certified as an HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse.

Tim Claus is a Nurse Care Manager in Medical Adherence, where he helps patients understand their chronic medical conditions and provides tools to help them stay actively engaged in their healthcare. Prior to coming to Whitman-Walker, he served as a nurse extern at a substance abuse clinic and worked as an acute care cardiac nurse. Tim holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing as well as a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Gettysburg College.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys staying active and playing competitive volleyball occasionally traveling to other cities to compete. He has aspirations to continue his education and eventually become a nurse practitioner focusing on LGBTQ health.

Jerilyn Cox is a Nurse Care Manager in Medical Adherence, where she helps patients creatively overcome barriers to managing their health conditions through direct services and referrals and advocates for policies to improve the medical care provided by local health systems. Prior to joining Whitman-Walker, Jerilyn worked in Haiti on a program aimed at enhancing maternal and child health in the rural south. She is studying Spanish to improve communication with her patients and loves outdoor activities with colleagues at Whitman-Walker. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from Cedarville University.

Jessica Estrada has been Director of Nursing and Medical Support since 2013, overseeing Whitman-Walker medical care management, including the services offered by the Nurse Care Managers, Care Navigators, and Referral Coordinators. She previously served as a nurse care manager at Whitman-Walker from 2008-2010.

Estrada is a Registered Nurse and received her master’s degree in public health nursing from Johns Hopkins University in 2011. She had practical experiences with the National Association for School Nurses and Franklin Square Hospital Center in health policy and program evaluation, respectively.

Neatha Glover, who joined Whitman-Walker in 2007, is a Referral Coordinator. She has had a long career in health care, having trained as a medical assistant and surgical technician. Prior to joining Whitman-Walker, Glover worked at George Washington University Hospital, Howard University Hospital, and the HSC Pediatric Center.

Glover, a native Washingtonian, attended the Georgetown School of Arts and the University of the District of Columbia.

Traci Griggs is a Medical Adherence Nurse Care Manager at Whitman-Walker’s Max Robinson Center. As a registered nurse with a clinical background in bedside nursing, Griggs acknowledges the importance of patient education and self-empowerment for the best patient outcomes. “I want my patients to become experts about their own health conditions. Knowledge is power.” Griggs is a graduate from Hampton University School of Nursing. Before joining WWH in January, Griggs worked in family/integrative medicine, acute care and neurotrauma. Griggs is currently studying to become a HIV/AIDS-certified nurse and hopes to one day become a provider at Max Robinson Center.

Before joining Whitman-Walker, she worked as pediatric home care nurse, pediatric community health nurse and a licensed school nurse in Minnesota. In addition to nursing, she is a certified yoga instructor specializing in power vinyasa yoga. Jameson holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin.

Kristen Jarvis is a Nurse Care Manager, where she helps patients understand their chronic medical conditions and provides tools to help them stay actively engaged in their health care. Previously, she was a dietitian at Whitman-Walker Health for 5 years before leaving to go back to nursing school in 2013. She attended the accelerated program at Marymount University and graduated in 2014.

Jarvis is originally from Oklahoma. She loves nutrition and loves to talk to clients, patients, and colleagues about anything food-related.

Nakia Sharee Jones joined Whitman-Walker in 2010 as a Referral Coordinator in the Medical Adherence Unit. Prior to that, she worked in medical records for more than five years and patient registration for more than one year at Unity Health Care.

Jones was born and raised in the northeast part of Washington, DC. She graduated from M.M. Washington technical high school, where she studied culinary arts. She is trained as a medical assistant and is currently in school for health care administration.

Nia Keita is a Nurse Care Manager in Medical Adherence, where she helps patients understand their chronic medical conditions and provides tools to help them stay actively engaged in their health care. She joined Whitman-Walker in 2003 as senior staff nurse of Whitman-Walker’s Day Treatment Program. Prior to joining Whitman-Walker, she worked at Washington Hospital Center, Howard University Hospital, and Community Connections.

As a native Washingtonian, Keita has personally witnessed the impact of HIV/AIDS on the local community. For her second career, she went to the University of the District of Columbia, where she received her associate’s degree in nursing. Keita believes it is never too late to learn and is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Trinity Washington University, with a graduation date of 2015.

Kristi Kiger

Medical Adherence Nurse Care Manager

Kristi Kiger joined the research team as a Research Nurse and the Site Coordinator for the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) in June 2014. Whitman-Walker Health was awarded the ACTG grant under the NIH Division of AIDS to study HIV and co-infections, such as Hepatitis C. In 2016 moved into the position of Medical Adherence Nurse Care Manager.

Kiger was born and raised in Los Angeles but has been a resident of DC for over a decade. Her first degree was in human development and Latin American studies from the University of California, San Diego. She spent roughly 10 years working with a community-based youth mentoring program in Southeast DC and maintains close mentoring relationships with several young ladies. After completing Georgetown University’s accelerated BSN program, Kiger worked as a nurse at the Washington Hospital Center in perioperative services. She also worked part-time with Whitman-Walker Health’s SHARE research project for 3 years prior to joining the staff full-time.

Megan O’Hanlon Solis is a Nurse Care Manager. Her career has largely focused on harm reduction as a tool for social justice, and community-based interventions for substance abuse, mental health, and HIV. Her experience includes inpatient hospice in Baltimore City, and public health nursing at the Baltimore County Health Department; Fort Belknap Indian Community; Women, Infants, and Children; and Chase Brexton Health Care. O’Hanlon Solis also served as the 2003-2004 National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps member at HIPS in Washington, DC.

O’Hanlon Solis earned her master’s degree in nursing and public health from Johns Hopkins University in 2008 and her bachelor’s degree in biology from Pacific Lutheran University.

Marion Smith is a Medical Adherence Nurse Care Manager, where she helps patients understand their chronic medical conditions and provides tools to encourage active engagement in their health care. Before joining Whitman-Walker, she worked as a nurse on the medical oncology unit at Washington Hospital Center. Prior to that, Smith was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho, where she focused on teen mother health and nutrition, HIV awareness, and education issues.

Smith is a native Washingtonian. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in history from The College of Wooster.
