Whitman-Walker Testing Services Include:
If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, there is medication you can take to prevent infection. Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) must be taken as soon as possible after suspected exposure to HIV, and no later than 72 hours after exposure in order to be effective.

The GMHW Sexual Health Clinic for testing and treatment is available by appointment-only. If you are experiencing symptoms of an STI or have a known exposure to an STI, call us at 202.745.6175.
Our Tuesday and Thursday evening, clinic at 1525 offers free testing for syphilis and HIV, and free screenings for chlamydia, gonorrhea and hepatitis C, as well as free evaluation and treatment for STI symptoms. For HIV testing, we provide both rapid and 4th generation testing at the walk-in clinic. We offer the same walk-in services for STI symptoms at Max Robinson Center on Fridays from 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Please note the CDC does not recommend herpes screening for people who are not experiencing symptoms. For information on daytime HIV and STI testing, please click here.

The Gay Men's Health & Wellness Clinic (GMHW) is the longest running program at Whitman-Walker. Starting back in 1973 as the Gay Men's VD Clinic and run by a group of dedicated volunteers, this program serves as the foundation of Whitman-Walker. More than 45 years later, the GMHW Sexual Health Clinic is still run by volunteers with the support of Whitman-Walker staff - all of who are dedicated to providing quality, stigma-free sexual healthcare and treatment to the communities of greater Washington, DC.

Registering for the Clinic on Tuesday or Thursday Evening at 1525
This clinic begins at 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the 4th floor of 1525 14th Street, NW. The clinic is led by volunteers, and services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registering for the Clinic on Fridays at Max Robinson Center
If you would like free HIV and STI testing and you do NOT have symptoms, you can come into the clinic at Max Robinson Center anytime between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm on Fridays. No appointment is necessary for this visit, but please check-in for "testing" at the reception desk.
If you would like free HIV and STI testing, and you are currently experiencing symptoms, please arrive at the Max Robinson Center clinic between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm and check-in for "GMHW Sexual Health" at the reception desk. No appointment is necessary for this visit.
Getting Your Results
Rapid HIV test results are available the same night of your test in the clinic. All other STI results will be available up to eight days after you have completed testing. Due to the high amount of clients we test, we encourage you to check your online Patient Portal for test results. The Patient Portal is an online resource for you to view your medical records, request appointments, refill your prescriptions and more.

Daytime STI Treatment
Whitman-Walker offers treatment for syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea if you tested positive for these STIs at Whitman-Walker Health through either our GMHW Sexual Health Clinic, our daytime walk-in STI testing services, or as a Whitman-Walker medical patient.
Whitman-Walker may also treat you if you tested positive at the Department of Health. Please note, you must have proof of a positive STI test result from Whitman-Walker or the Department of Health to receive STI treatment at Whitman-Walker.
STI treatment is available by appointment at Whitman-Walker at 1525 Monday through Thursdays, and at Max Robinson Center on Fridays. Please call 202.745.6105 to schedule a treatment appointment or for more information on our STI treatment services.
PrEP Education & Appointments
In addition to offering free STI & HIV testing, the GMHW Sexual Health Clinic offers to start clients on PrEP. “PrEP” stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is an FDA-approved prevention pill for people who don’t have HIV, but who have a greater chance of becoming HIV-positive. When taken every day, PrEP can prevent an HIV infection by over 92 percent. Our team at the GMHW Sexual Health Clinic can help you start PrEP on the same day you come in, as well as connect you with Whitman-Walker's PrEP Clinic for future refills and speedy service. Tratamiento diurno de EV
Whitman-Walker ofrece tratamiento para sífilis, clamidia y gonorrea en caso de que su prueba de estas EV le haya dado resultado positivo en Whitman-Walker Health, a través de nuestra Clínica de salud y bienestar para hombres homosexuales, nuestros servicios diurnos de pruebas de EV sin cita previa, o durante su cita como paciente médico de Whitman-Walker.
Whitman-Walker también podrá tratarlo si su prueba fue positiva en el Departamento de Salud. Por favor, tenga en cuenta que debe tener evidencia de un resultado de la prueba de ITS positivo de Whitman-Walker o del Departamento de Salud y tener, al menos, 18 años de edad para recibir tratamiento para las ITS en Whitman-Walker. Educación y citas para PrEP
Además de ofrecer pruebas gratuitas de EV y VIH, la Clínica de salud y bienestar para hombres homosexuales ofrece educación sobrePrEP. “PrEP” son las siglas de Profilaxis Pre-exposición en inglés. Se trata de una píldora preventiva aprobada por la FDA, para personas que no tienen VIH, pero tienen mayores probabilidades de volverse VIH positivo. Cuando se la toma todos los días, la PrEP puede prevenir una infección de VIH en más del 92%.
