Services are part of a confidential and comprehensive STD diagnostic process, focused on the clinical needs of men who have sex with men and following clinical guidelines. HIV testing is available during these hours as well. The majority of the services are free of charge, with some options at additional costs. There is free testing for Syphilis and HIV and free screening for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Hepatitis and Herpes services can be provided for a fee. There is free treatment for Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.
The clinic begins at 6:00 pm. Services are available on a first come, first served basis. This is a volunteer staffed clinic and there are limits to the number of people who can be served based on staffing and the numbers of people requesting testing. It is recommended that you arrive as early as possible to increase the likelihood that you will be seen. Any arrival after the clinic begins may not be guaranteed services. You should expect to spend between one and two hours going through the process.
Testing and treatment includes several steps some of which are:
- orientation to the clinic
- blood draw
- potential risk screening
- safe sex conversations
- potential treatments
The HIV test is a rapid test and the results will be provided during the same night it is performed in clinic. All other test results will be ready eight days from the day of testing, available for you at the GMHW ONLY telephone result line: 202.745.6112. (This Result Line is for GMHW STD Results ONLY, and the results are only available for you eight days from your night of testing, Wednesday or Fridays, between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00pm).
