Public Benefits & Insurance Navigation Team
Our Public Benefits and Insurance Navigators meet with all new medical, dental, and behavioral health patients who don’t have insurance to see if they qualify for public health insurance. We also help our existing patients.

DC Health Link, the city’s online health insurance exchange is now open! Created by the Affordable Care Act, DC Health Link allows you to compare and shop for health insurance policies that fit your needs.
With so many options available, we know you may have some questions about which policy is best for you. And we’re here to help!

WW staff can help patients who are eligible enroll in medical assistance programs including:
- Medicare Savings Programs (Qualified Medicare Beneficiary or QMB)
- DC Healthcare Alliance
- Maryland Health Insurance Program (MHIP)
- HIV/AIDS-specific programs (including AIDS Drug Assistance Programs and AIDS Insurance Assistance Programs)
- High risk insurance pools
- Other public health insurance options
We can also help patients with prescription drug assistance programs offered through the pharmaceutical companies.
After helping patients enroll, our coordinators can help them keep their coverage by helping them re-certify when needed and by addressing coverage problems and denials when they happen.
For patients who don’t qualify for insurance, our navigators can screen them for our sliding fee scale and possible assistance from grants (such as Ryan White funding for HIV-positive patients) to reduce their out-of-pocket costs.
Public Benefits Team – Hours and Contact Information
You don’t need an appointment to see our Public Benefits team. Ask at our front desk to be put on their schedule. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
You will need to bring some documents with you to help us see what benefits you may be able to receive.
The Public Benefits Team operates on a walk-in basis from 8:00 am-8:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am-6:00 pm Friday at the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center. Public Benefits Navigators are available from 8:00 am- 5:00 pm Monday through Friday (except the fourth Thursday of each month) at Max Robinson Center. Clients are served on a first-come, first-served basis. The main number for the Public Benefits Team is 202.745.6151.
