HIV Testing and Counseling

No appointment is needed for HIV testing at Whitman-Walker. And, if a test is positive, we can begin medical care right away!

Confidential testing for HIV is offered to the general public at all of our sites. HIV testing is free of charge but donations are welcomed.

Whitman-Walker uses a rapid HIV test that delivers results in about 15 minutes.

HIV Mobile Testing Unit

Whitman-Walker operates a mobile HIV testing unit that goes into communities at risk and provides HIV testing and prevention education.

Special Testing

  • Testing for Spanish speaking clients is available.
  • Testing for the Hearing Impaired is also available. Individual appointments can be arranged by calling 202.797.4454 through a relay service.
  • Testing is also available at the STD Clinicfrom which begins at 6:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center.
  • Testing is also performed at festivals, health fairs and other community agencies. For more information, visit the Community Health page.
